You are in pain, feel stiff or are constantly tired. You have had medical tests, but the results have not revealed a clear explanation. That can be reassuring, yet leave you wondering: why do I still feel this way? And what can I do next?
Normal test results do not make your symptoms any less real. They are a starting point for discussing what has been investigated, what remains uncertain and which next steps may be appropriate.
A normal result means that the particular test did not identify any relevant abnormalities. What you can conclude from it depends on the test and the medical question it was intended to answer. Blood tests, scans and physical examinations each provide different information.
Ask your doctor what the results mean in your situation. Which possible causes have become less likely? What can the tests not assess? And when might further evaluation be needed?
Your symptoms may still affect your daily life. The gap between reassuring results and how you actually feel can cause frustration and uncertainty. You can feel relieved about the findings while still needing an explanation and a plan.
When symptoms persist, it can help to review the available information together. Previous medical findings matter, alongside your experience of the symptoms and their effect on everyday activities.
Stress can influence symptoms in some people, but normal test results do not prove that stress is the cause. Symptoms themselves can also disrupt sleep and create stress. The factors involved need to be considered individually.
The aim is to understand your situation more clearly and identify practical opportunities to improve your functioning and wellbeing.
Individual reports each tell part of the story. A chronological overview can show how symptoms, investigations and treatments have developed over time.
When did the first symptoms appear? What happened next? Which treatments helped, how long did the benefit last and what remained unclear?
A timeline can make conversations with healthcare professionals more focused. A sequence of events does not establish a cause, but it can help identify useful questions and support better coordination.
If you have received care in more than one country, check which records your current healthcare professionals have. Relevant reports and an accurate medication list can help them assess your situation.
Discuss with your GP or specialist what the investigations have shown and what remains uncertain. Ask about the next appropriate step and when your situation should be reviewed.
List your main symptoms, previous investigations, treatments and current medicines. Include examples of activities that have become difficult. This helps you cover the most important points during an appointment.
Consider sleep, activity, physical demands and stress without deciding in advance what is causing the problem. You do not need to monitor every sensation. A brief record of noticeable changes may be enough to support the discussion.
Alongside understanding your symptoms, useful goals may include managing daily activities more comfortably, finding a sustainable routine or coping better with limitations. Discuss what is realistic and how progress will be reviewed.
Previous normal results do not explain every future symptom. Contact your GP if symptoms change, become significantly worse or new symptoms develop. Seek urgent medical help for severe acute symptoms.
At IMC Utrecht, an assessment starts with your story, medical history and previous care. We discuss your symptoms, daily functioning and expectations, and assess whether an osteopathic approach is appropriate for your situation.
Understanding the possibilities and limitations of treatment is part of that assessment. If further medical evaluation is needed, we discuss this with you. IMC does not replace your GP or specialist.
Sometimes an initial appointment reveals a need that extends beyond an individual treatment. For example, several healthcare professionals may be involved while coordination or follow-up remains unclear. In that situation, we can discuss whether broader, independent medical care coordination through Enlace Care may be appropriate.
Your symptoms deserve attention, even when investigations have not provided a clear explanation. A considered next step brings together medical assessment, recognition of your experience and attention to factors that may affect your symptoms and daily life.
